NLC, TUC want Minister of States for Health to resign

The Leaderships of the Nigeria Labour Congress and the Trade Union Congress are demanding for the resignation of the Minister of State, Dr. Osagie Ehanire, for alleged involved in the handling of the case of corruption against the Chief Medical Director of the Federal Medical Centre, Owerri, Dr. Angela Uwakwem.

The President of the NLC, Mr. Ayuba Wabba, and his counterpart in the TUC, Mr. Bala Kaigama, led members of the two Labour centers to occupy the office of the Minister of State over his decision to reinstate the CMD of FMC, Owerri in Abuja on Thursday.

NLC is not happy with the refusal of Ehanire to remove Uwakwem as the Chief Medical Director of the FMC, Owerri in spite of allegations of corruption and a pending case against her in the State High Court, Owerri, Imo State.

The NLC’s President promide the Labour will not stop its movement in ensuring that whistle blowers in corruption cases were protected in accordance with the decision of the Federal Executive Council.

Wabba said that the Minister of State for Health was contradicting the decision of the FEC on whistle blowers with removal of the names of 200 workers who sympathised with the organised Labour from the payroll.

He vowed that they would go after the Minister in the office, his official residence and in his country home in Edo State to force him to do the right thing about the corruption case involving Uwakwem.

According to Wabba, the Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adamu Bello, had done everything about the issue but that the Ehanire sat on the file.

He vowed that they would go after the Minister in the office, his official residence and in his country home in Edo State to force him to do the right thing about the corruption case involving Uwakwem.

According to Wabba, the Minister of Health Prof. Isaac Adewole and the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry, Adamu Bello, had done everything about the issue but that the Ehanire sat on the file.

He said, “Over 200 workers who sympathized with the cause of their colleagues have been denied salaries. Their names have been removed by Integrated Personnel Payroll Information System from the payroll of Federal Medical Centre, Owerri. Is this fairness, is this how to fight corruption. We must continue to stand by our colleagues.

“The declaration of the Federal Executive Council that whistle blowers should be rewarded must be enforced. The Minister of State for Health was there when that decision was taken. So we will  force him and tell him to confirm with that decision.
