Lagos employees lament high cost of living, want N56,000 minimum wage

    The Trade Union Congress of Nigeria (TUC), Lagos State council has asked the state government to increase workers’ minimum wage to N56,000 to meet the high cost of living in the state. The Chairman of the congress, Francis Ogunremi, said this yesterday at the May Day celebration tagged “Labour Relations in Economic Recession: An Appraisal” at Agege Stadium, Agege, Lagos.     “Although the Federal Government has set up a committee including the labour centres to review the minimum wage, we are indeed proposing N56,000 as minimum wage to you for consideration in Lagos.”

    The Chairman, Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), Lagos State Council, Idowu Adelakun, tasked labour movement to create investment opportunities where workers can become employers, rather than remain permanent employees. Meanwhile, Governor Ambode has urged workers and the leadership of organised labour to rededicate themselves to values that ensure industrial harmony and economic resilience in the country.
